English About the exam

Who organises the telc examinations?

The examinations are organised by accredited centres and examination centres authorised to conduct telc examinations.
The Maritime University of Szczecin organises telc certificate examinations as an entity authorised to conduct these examinations on the basis of a licence granted by the CJO of the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów in April 2024.

Who can take the telc exam?

The telc exam in English as a foreign language in a group adapted to the needs of adults may be taken by persons who are at least 18 years old on the day of the exam.
Persons between the ages of 10 and 17 may also take the telc exam in English as a foreign language provided that their parent or legal guardian has given their written consent.

Which telc examinations can be taken at our centre?

We organise telc examinations in English at levels: Dual B1-B2 and B2-C1 and C2.

When is the telc exam considered to have been passed?

The exam score consists of the results of the following test modules:
1. Listening comprehension/ Written comprehension/ Elements of language.
2. Writing.
3. Oral examination.

Exam Dual B1-B2:
The test modules "Listening comprehension", "Reading comprehension" and "Elements of language" consist, for the B1-B2 dual level, of 59 questions. The student gets one point for each correct answer, so can score a maximum of 59 points.
All scores "above" 26 indicate B2 level, "below" - A2 (in which case no certificate is issued).


Exam Dual B2-C1
The test modules "Listening comprehension", "Reading comprehension" and "Elements of language" consist, for the B2-C1 dual level, of 70 questions. The test-taker gets one point for each correct answer, so can score a maximum of 70 points.
All scores "above" 31 indicate level B2, "below" - B1 (in which case no certificate is issued).


Exam C2
The test modules "Listening comprehension", "Reading comprehension" and "Elements of language" for level C2 allow a maximum of 160 points. The candidate gets one point for each correct answer. The candidate must obtain at least 60 per cent of the marks in the written and oral parts of the examination.
All scores "above" 95 points indicate C2 level, "below" the certificate is not issued.

Why do you need a telc certificate?

The telc certificate:
- is one of the elements for taking the civil service qualification examination for appointed civil servants
- recognised by the Ministry of National Education as one of the prerequisites for teaching English in kindergarten and first to third grades
- confirms knowledge of the language when applying for official posts in the EU institutions
- is recognised by universities in the UK as a prerequisite for entry to university with English language skills
- helps you apply for Erasmus grants
- is welcomed by employers.

How can I obtain a telc certificate?

Telc certificates are issued upon successful completion of the examination at the examination venue (the document can be collected in person or by post to the mailing address).
The waiting time for the results and certificate is approximately 6-8 weeks.
