Regulations for telc examinations in Polish as a foreign language at Maritime University of Szczecin
- The Maritime University of Szczecin organises examinations in Polish as a foreign language on the basis of its licence rights under the licence agreement of 10 April 2024.
- The Maritime University of Szczecin, as an accredited telc centre, organises and conducts telc examinations with the assistance of the responsible entity, i.e. Maritime English Center Maritime University of Szczecin (hereinafter: MEC).
- Examinations shall be held on the dates specified in the schedule of examination sessions. The dates of the examination sessions held in a given calendar year are available at https://telc.pm.szczecin.pl/en/exam-session-dates/
- Interested persons wishing to obtain a document certifying their level of proficiency in Polish as a foreign language at B1-B2 level may take the examination.
- Persons who are at least 18 years of age on the day of the examination at the latest may take the examination. If you are under 18 years of age on the day of the examination and wish to take the examination, you must provide your legal guardian/parent with written consent to take the examination.
- In order to take the examination, you must correctly complete and submit the electronic application form on the website https://telc.pm.szczecin.pl/en/registration/polish/, pay the examination fee by the deadline indicated on the aforementioned website, and receive confirmation of your participation in the examination within the applicable place limits. All costs related to the application and taking the examination, including the transfer costs, are entirely the responsibility of the person taking the examination.
- The examination fee is respectively:
a) 990 PLN - for B1-B2 levels (so-called dual) of Polish language;
b) 1390PLN - in the case of a desire to take the examination on one's own (an examination for 1 person) or in the case of a need to adapt the conditions and form of taking the examination to special health needs of a person taking the examination, referred to in para. 16, regardless of the level of the examination taken. - The number of places for those taking the examination is limited.
- The application form referred to in paragraph 6 shall be active until the place limit referred to in paragraph 8 has been reached. Submission of the form does not constitute registration and participation in the examination.
- Those wishing to take the examination are fully responsible for the veracity and accuracy of the data provided on the application form. This data is the basis for issuing a certificate after passing the examination.
- Payments from those who have not received notification of their inclusion in the list of those taking the examination (confirmation of their participation in the examination within the applicable place limits) will not be accepted and will not take part in the examination - these persons will receive a refund of the amount paid to the bank account from which the payment was made, minus the costs of making the transfer.
- The examination registration process is deemed to be successfully completed once the examination fee has been credited to the designated MEC bank account and confirmation of attendance has been received within the applicable seat limits.
- Once the registration process referred to in paragraph 12 has been successfully completed, it is not possible to change the place, date or level of the examination.
- Examinations are organised in a given examination session on condition that the required minimum number of candidates - 2 persons (excluding examinations of individual character) - applies. The final decision to hold an examination on a given date, in the face of a smaller than required number of persons wishing to take the examination, is taken by the Director of the MEC.
- In the event that an examination is cancelled by the MEC, in particular if the required minimum number of candidates does not apply, those wishing to take the examination who have paid the relevant fees will have their fees refunded to the account from which the examination fee was paid.
- Persons whose participation in the examination requires adaptation of the conditions and form of the examination to their special health needs and who wish to use these facilities should submit a relevant application to the MEC no later than 45 days before the planned date of the examination, and in the case of a wish to use facilities and adaptations related to visual dysfunction no later than 120 days before the planned date of the examination. The persons referred to in the previous sentence are required to attach to the abovementioned application a copy of a current certificate of disability from a medical board or a medical certificate of health or an opinion from a psychological-educational counselling centre regarding specific learning difficulties issued no earlier than 12 months before the planned examination date. The documents must be in German or English or, if the documents are in a language other than your mother tongue, they must be submitted in their original language together with a translation into one of these languages by a sworn translator. The abovementioned documents must be presented in the original. Adapted examinations are always on an individual basis.
- Examinees should present themselves at the examination venue no later than 30 minutes before the start of the examination.
- A valid document with a photograph, i.e. passport or identity card, must be presented in order to take the examination.
- The examination consists of a written and an oral part. The written part of the examination consists of a test comprising single-choice questions in which the correct answer must be chosen from among several answers presented (A, B, C and D tests) and lasts between 2 and 3 clock hours, depending on the level. In the oral part of the examination, test takers take part in pairs and the examination lasts approximately 16 to 20 minutes. In the event of an odd number of examinees, an examiner with whom the examinee does not have a pair takes part in the oral part with the examinee forming a pair for the purposes of the examination. For the written part of the examination, candidates must provide and have in their possession soft pencils, erasers and pencil sharpeners - the written part of the examination (the test) must be completed in pencil only.
- Examinees are not allowed to bring food, supporting materials (in particular books, notes, papers, etc.) and devices for the transmission, reception, recording of images and sounds or information (in particular telephones, tablets, computers, smart watches, headphones, etc.) into the examination room/room.
- The examination session coordinator shall interrupt and invalidate the examination for the candidate in the event of:
a) the examinee brings into the examination room where the examination is taking place auxiliary materials and devices for transmitting, receiving or recording images, sounds or information referred to in paragraph 20;
b) the examinee communicating with other examinees;
c) the examinee disrupting the examination. - In the case referred to in paragraph 21, the examination fee is not refundable.
- After telc has communicated the results of the examination to the Maritime University of Szczecin, the MEC informs the examinees by e-mail of the results of the examination. The certificate of proficiency in Polish at a given level (B1 or B2) must be collected in person at the MEC, which is a telc examination centre, at Wały Chrobrego 1-2; 70-500 Szczecin, confirming its receipt in writing. It is also possible to send the certificate by post, with acknowledgement of receipt, to the address provided by the person taking the exam. By agreeing to send the telc certificate by snail mail, the candidate accepts responsibility for any loss, damage etc. of the package. The costs of sending the certificate by snail mail are to be borne entirely by the test taker.
- A person taking the examination who passes the examination will receive a foreign language certificate at the specified level. A person taking the examination who does not achieve a positive result in the examination will receive a result report. It is possible to obtain a duplicate certificate within 10 years of the issue of the certificate or results sheet by submitting an application via www.telc.net and paying the relevant fee.
- A test taker, upon receipt of his/her results, has the right to request verification of the results within 6 weeks of the issue of the certificate or results sheet, upon payment of the appropriate fee, via www.telc.net.
- A person taking an examination who failed to participate in the examination for reasons beyond the control of the Maritime University of Szczecin or MEC is entitled to a refund of the relevant part of the examination fee, provided that he/she submits a written request for the refund of the fee in accordance with the deadlines specified below:
a) earlier than 45 days before the scheduled examination date - 100% of the examination fee will be refunded,
b) between 45 and 31 days before the planned examination date - a refund of 60% of the examination fee. - The examination fee paid by the examinee shall not be refunded in the event that the examinee registers for the examination less than 31 days before the scheduled start date of the examination and in the case of registration for an examination of an individual nature.
- Submitting the application form and paying the examination fee is tantamount to agreeing to take the examination and to knowing and accepting the contents of these Regulations and the telc Examination Regulations available at https://www.telc.net and to agreeing to abide by their provisions.
- Matters not covered by these Rules shall be governed by the relevant provisions of generally applicable law, in particular the Civil Code.
